What does ‘doing your bit’ mean to you?
I believe that it means making the time in your own busy life to volunteer for the benefit of the next generation. I lead and organise sessions each week and attend camps in the holidays, and I also led a group of teenagers around Israel for a month. I educated them on the country, its history and culture, as well as encouraging them to acknowledge their Jewish identity and understand the special connection they have to the Jewish homeland.
What have you gained from JLGB?
I think I’ve benefited in two ways: I have gained leadership and organisational skills that I can continue to develop in the future and I have created lifelong friendships with all the other volunteers I work with at JLGB.
Why should others volunteer?
It’s a more warm and welcoming experience than you can imagine. You’re encouraged to step up and take the lead so you can gain valuable life skills and experiences whilst giving back to the community. You’ll also have great fun on the National Summer and Winter Camps!
